Pandora

-
I recently ran across a Penny-Arcade article that mentioned an internet music radio thing called "Pandora". It's pretty cool. I'm having fun putting several different artists together on one station. The station I've currently got has Third Day, U2, The O.C. Supertones, Los Lonely Boys, Stevie Ray Vaughn, B.B. King, Johnny Cash, TobyMac, D.C. Talk, Kutless, 12 Stones, Caedmon's Call, Sixpence None the Richer, Audio Adrenaline, Jars of Clay, Steve Taylor, Newsboys, and Rich Mullines. This is an interesting combination.

I heartily encourage you to try it yourself. It's pretty freakin' cool.

Which side are we on? We're on the side of the demons, chief. We're evil men in the garden of paradise, sent by the forces of death to spread devestation and destruction wherever we go.

What? No 'The Waiting' or Smalltown Poets? I guess I'm going to have to stick with Yahoo Launchcast...

I've never really listened to either of those artists much. I don't know if I've listened to "The Waiting" at all. I know I've heard Smalltown Poets, but, while they didn't drive me away, I was never drawn to them. Pandora works by letting you select some artists you know/like, and then it recomends selections to you based on the findings of the music Genome Project. I haven't encountered and "The Waiting" or "Smalltown Poets" with it yet, but it's suggested some pretty cool stuff. (and some not so cool stuff. Putting D.C. Talk on there apparently made it think I like RAP..grrr)

There's a band called "Jonah 33" that seems pretty cool. I usually take to bands in an obsessive fashion. I'll hear a band or artist with a sound I like, and then I'll buy a couple of CDs and engorge myself in their music for a couple of weeks. I don't do this as often anymore.

There's another cool band called "The Turning" that I've only just heard about and is on here.

Actually I was referring to my attempt to start with those artists, only to find that they don't have either of them.

It would also not be much of a help to me if there is no way to filter by genre (is there?). I prefer to stay away from secular music entirely, if I can.

When I had just Christian artists in there, it had a strong tendancy to just give me Christian music. I don't know if it gave me a single secular tune under that condition. Now I get some of those though, but it's usually stuff that don't bother me too much. (i.e. the blues)
